Infinity Stone List + T.H.A.N.O.S. Theory (#12)

Hey, fellow fanboys/fangirls.

A few months ago, I heard of a cool theory about the Infinity Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For those who don't know, the Infinity Stones are a group of six different coloured gems that each serve different purposes. When placed together in the Infinity Gauntlet, all six gems make the wearer practically invincible. So far in the MCU, we know where four of the six gems are. Before I talk about the theory I read about, I'm going to tell you about the four stones we know of so far. Please note that this list was written in June 2015, so some facts about the stones can and will change with the release of future movies, such as the current location and owner. Oh, and of course, spoiler warning for those who haven't seen all the MCU films so far.

The six Infinity Stones. They are red, green, purple, orange,
 yellow and blue.

Marvel Cinematic Universe - Infinity Stones

1) Space Stone
The Space Stone was the first Infinity Stone seen in the MCU. The actual stone hasn't been seen yet, except for a very brief glimpse during Thor's vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but we know that the stone's colour is blue. It is currently in a blue cuboid-like containment unit called the Tesseract, and has been inside this for a very long time. As it is the Space Stone, it can be utilised to transport objects and people to anywhere in the universe, and has been used to make weapons by S.H.I.E.L.D. and H.Y.D.R.A. A long time ago, the Cube (as it is often referred to) was held by Odin, who brought it down to Earth where it was held by a Church Keeper. It was then taken by the Red Skull before it fell into the ocean after he was defeated by Captain America. It was then found again by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Avengers, where it was stolen by Loki. After the Avengers defeated him, it was given to Heimdall in Asgard for safekeeping (a lot of people have owned this stone!), where it is currently still being held.

2) Mind Stone
The Mind Stone was first seen inside Loki's Scepter in the Avengers, although it wasn't known for sure that it was Infinity Stone back then. When it was revealed to be the Mind Stone, many thought it may be the blue stone since it had a blue protective casing when it was in Loki's scepter (even though the Tesseract was also blue) but it was later found out that the stone is actually the yellow Infinity Stone. The Mind Stone is able to make the user a lot more intelligent, as well as project their consciousness onto a higher plane of existence. Tony Stark originally saw it as a power source, but according to J.A.R.V.I.S./Vision it is more like a very powerful computer. When Loki's scepter was taken by S.H.I.E.L.D. after Loki's defeat, it was passed on through to H.Y.D.R.A. through sleeper agents (after H.Y.D.R.A.'s infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and was used in their experiments. Eventually, its blue protective casing was broken by Ultron where it was seen to be yellow, and at the end of Avengers 2 was left with Vision, who Thor trusted to be worthy. It is currently in Vision's forehead.

The protective casing has been taken off, and the stone,
whose true colour is yellow, resides in Vision's head.

3) Reality Stone
The red Infinity Stone, the Reality Stone, hasn't been seen properly yet. Only the Aether, a very dark red, viscous and sinister looking liquid form of the stone, has been seen. The Aether can be absorbed by a living host, such as Jane Foster in Thor: The Dark World, granting that person incredible strength and power. Only Jan Foster and Malekith have been known to have been hosts for the Aether, and its full power may not have been shown so far. Malekith wanted to use it to cover the Nine Realms in darkness, but was stopped. The stone was taken in a special containment box to the Collector on Knowhere for safekeeping, and is currently still there. However, the Collector's home was damaged a lot at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, so it is possible the Aether is no longer there. The solid version of the stone was briefly seen in Thor's vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

4) Power Stone
The Power Stone is the purple Infinity Stone. It was kept inside a small metallic ball called the Orb, and Thanos sent Ronan the Accuser to receive it from the deserted planet of Morag. Ronan agreed, and in return would receive help in destroying Xandar. Star-Lord got the Orb first and was planning to sell it and split the profit between the other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy (apart from Drax the Destroyer) when he saw its destructive force unleashed at the Collector's home on Knowhere. Ronan soon managed to get the stone and attempted to use its power to destroy Xandar and Thanos, but it was taken back by the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu wanted the Orb from Star-Lord, who tricked him and gave him a fake. The Guardians gave the real Orb to Nova Prime (Irani Rael) of the Nova Corps on Xandar, where it is currently being kept for safekeeping.

The purple Power Stone
The fifth and sixth Infinity Stones haven't been seen yet, but we know that the two that have yet to appear are the Soul Stone and the Time Stone, and that one of them is green and the other is orange. We don't know when the stones will be seen, but there is an extremely likely chance they will be seen before Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, and one of them, such as the Soul Stone, might show up in Doctor Strange next year as that film will probably feature a lot of magical and mysterious elements.

Now that I've told you a lot about what we've seen of the stones so far, let me tell you about my theory. Now, in the MCU, there is an extremely powerful being called Thanos who wants to get all six stones (he owns one of the two Infinity Gauntlets needed to place the stones in; the other is in Odin's vault). So far, he has tried to have others get the stones for him, such as Loki and Ronan, but has failed, thanks to the superheroes. At the end of Avengers 2, however, he is seen preparing to try and get the stones himself, which will lead through Phase 3 up to the last two Avengers movies (Infinity War Part 1 and 2). The theory is that the names of the objects that the stones have been held inside can come together to spell Thanos' name. Look below.

H
Aether
N
Orb
Scepter

If this theory is correct, perhaps the two remaining stones will be found inside objects whose names start with H and N? It could just be a coincidence, but nevertheless it's pretty cool.
