Earthbound: Beginnings (#26)

If you're a fan of the Mother series, or Earthbound as it's called outside of Japan, this news will probably get you pretty excited. For those who don't know, the Mother series is a trilogy of three video games, each of which are RPGs. However, the series is unique to other RPGs, which is what makes it so great. Instead of fighting with a sword and shield like your average RPG protagonist, you fight with weapons such as baseball bats and even yo-yos, as well as with a psychic power called PSI (or PK as it's know in the Super Smash Bros series). The trilogy is quite popular in Japan, the USA and the UK, despite the fact that the only game in the series that was released outside of Japan is Mother 2, named Earthbound in the US/UK. Fans can play the first and third games on an emulator (there are fan translations), but this isn't the most legitimate way to play.

That is, until now! I'm happy to announce that Mother 1 has been released for the first time ever outside of Japan. To match up with Earthbound, the game has been named Earthbound: Beginnings, and can be purchased on the Wii U eShop for around $6.99. Earthbound: Beginnings/Mother 1 follows the adventures of Ninten, Teddy, Ana, and Lloyd. Now that Nintendo have released Mother 1 outside of Japan for the first time, could it be possible that a Mother 3 remake is heading to our shores soon? Mother 3 has been asked to be localised by a large number of fans, and is arguably as popular if not more popular than Earthbound/Mother 2.

If you're a hardcore RPG fan I recommend Earthbound: Beginnings to you. If you don't enjoy hard and old games though, you probably won't enjoy it as much as the other two games in the series.
